Biography
Mary Fluitt was born in Austin, Texas in 2003. Although she grew up in the nearby town of Georgetown, she returned to Austin in 2022 to pursue a BFA in Studio Art at the University of Texas at Austin. After receiving her degree in 2025, Fluitt continues to live and work in Austin, spending most of her time at local parks and nature preserves to gain inspiration for her artwork.
Fluitt works across a variety of mediums, including but not limited to painting, film and digital photography, relief printmaking, and experimental sculpture. Her work is rooted in the connection between nature and spirituality, exploring ideas of decay, peace, and what it means to be alive. Through looking closely at the natural world, Fluitt brings to light the similarities between all natural things and the balance that comes from this interconnectedness. She is particularly interested in the similarities between human bodies and plant forms, often exploring the bodily quality of tree bark through the use of color and texture in her work.
